2. Transparency
The Crystal of Existence
To find the general law that originated and governs existence would increase the depth of knowledge and the clarity of consciousness, improving the quality of life. To unravel the common structure that generates, supports, and connects all entities would allow us to understand any phenomenon, including ourselves, and simplify our perception of existence. One of the healthiest consequences of this knowledge would be the continuity and coupling between material and spiritual thought, both for the individual and for society. This was the objective of my search, and the reward would be personal satisfaction, the general benefit, and, as a supreme value, freedom.
Although, at first, I thought of transparency as “the solution”, I had to confirm the certainty of my discovery. I had to advance towards it, deepening my knowledge of it and its manifestations until I closed the circle and integrated the whole. My goal was to connect all of existence through its essence to explain its truth clearly and comprehensibly for everyone.
Transparency had arisen spontaneously, almost heuristically; a geometric intuition (what is traditionally termed illumination) pointed it out to me as the answer. However, the time came to delve into its necessity, its origins, and its expressions through the scientific method, logic, and intuition. Driven by my curiosity, I analysed existence without dismissing any structural or functional model. I approached the most disparate events, from the scientific to the spiritual; I approached madness, health, beauty, and death.
Background: The Gaze of the Radiologist and the Pulse of the Artist
My path towards transparency was not born in a library, but in sensitive observation. As a medical radiologist, my gaze had been educated to pierce through the opacity of the flesh and seek the truth in that which is not seen by the naked eye. In radiology, transparency is the vehicle of information: if the medium is transparent to the rays, the image is faithful; if there is noise or interference, reality is hidden. This training taught me that clarity depends on the characteristics of the interface we traverse and the eye with which we look.
In parallel, my facet as an artist pushed me to seek harmony and beauty in forms. In art, I learned that the most powerful work is not the one that adds the most, but the one that best allows its essence to manifest. This duality between the precision of diagnosis and the freedom of creation led me to ask myself: what is the law that governs both worlds?
I nourished myself, at a popular level, from the giants of physics and fractal mathematics. Concepts such as iteration, fractal dimension, attractors, transfinite ordinals, and the Riemann hypothesis provided the necessary structure for my intuition, liberated my thought, and brought profound tranquillity to my being.
The function I was looking for had to possess primarily a fractal dimension whose repetition would lead us to all the possibilities of existence. Loops, prime numbers, irrationals, and unreachable approximations would arise from the application of this function, acting as singular expressions of that condition of transparency. The possibility of being and not being at the same time astonished my mind.
The conjugation of these elements caused my thought to evolve towards a more agile and freer understanding of life. This occurred through an integration that entailed a conceptual simplification and an abstraction: a loss of the rigid memory of things that allowed my ideas to approach, on their own, the sought-after solution. Thus, the first fruits of transparency began to manifest spontaneously. My search for internal transparency evolved alongside the external one; I knew myself better and better, becoming more transparent to myself and to others.
The Act of Making Transparent
The verb “to make transparent” defines the application of this law as a function that allows the observation and understanding of diverse existences. Making transparent consists, essentially, of looking or understanding “through”; and, for this to be possible in all its manifestations, the faculty to exercise that act without interference is imperative, that is to say, the existence of freedom.
Making transparent facilitates the superimposition and comparison of different experiences, helping us to establish connections between them. It allows us to appreciate similarities, detect differences, and recognise the repetition of patterns, functions, or strategies. This identification is the basis of learning and knowledge of distinct entities, even disparate or distant ones. For example, transparency expressed in time allows us to evoke and compare events that occurred at different moments, which constitutes the foundation of knowledge and intelligence.
I knew that the object of my search had to be expressed in all facets of reality. Not only did I have to investigate scientific disciplines, but also everyday and personal facts, for everything is the fruit of this structure and function. Mathematics, physics, and life itself would have their starting point in transparency. This law had to permit a universal understanding, regardless of the observer and the way of observing.
The iteration of this function would determine the condition of the “Fractal of Fractals” or “Infinite Fractal”, as it would make possible and couple itself with all other existing fractals. The repetition of its application, and the repetition of the repetitions, would generate all the possibilities of existence. It would be, simultaneously, the order and the orderer; all things would be expressions of different levels of a single, original function or game.
I intuited that the answer had to be subtle, almost invisible or imperceptible, as it had to be present in the large and in the very small, in the complicated and in the simple. The fact that it has been sought without success for centuries suggested that it was something apparently insignificant. Therefore, at that moment, transparency, as the maximum expression of Non-Opacity or Non-Interference, presented itself, alongside Freedom, as the ideal candidate.
A Contradiction Resolved
I harboured a profound contradiction: my idea had deterministic overtones, whereas I was a firm defender of indeterminism. However, at this stage in my thinking, indeterminism was beginning to seem to me just another form of determinism. The rigidity of a “correct direction” contrasted with the amplitude of the evolutions we observe in nature, which points towards a universe without obligations, where the essence seems to be simply the fact of existing or not.
What law could be of mandatory compliance without entering into conflict with the freedom of the cosmos? Confronting transparency with this dilemma, with the passage of time, I found the answer in “Paradoxical Determinism”: the obligatoriness of freedom. Freedom not as an option, but as truth, the essence and necessary condition for existence.
Transparency Acquires Entity
A structure then arose in my mind, derived from the very faculty of seeing and from the multiplicity of points of view. This structure is a necessary medium for interaction to occur; hidden within it lies the key to transparency and also to existence.
If eyes of a different condition perceive different images of the same entity, there must exist a common entity, the essence of vision, and a complementary part specific to each observer. The captured image would flow through a common medium. And the “opacity” that distinguishes each entity would, in reality, be transparency sifted or distorted by the entanglements, interferences, or couplings between the parts forming said system. This would explain why we see degrees of opacity when, in essence, everything is “transparentable”.
This medium that allowed us to see is the same one that would allow us to hear, smell, feel, or understand. Although the characteristics might change, it would be the same structure that would make any exchange between entities possible. Vision would be a form of interaction and, for it to occur, an entity whose essence was non-interposition would be indispensable: this structure full of transparency, of non-interference and, in essence, of freedom, was the Interface.
The Interface: The Locus of Creation and Becoming
This relationship between entities and their distinct manifestations always occurs through it. The interface is the local expression of transparency and freedom. It is the common path for connection; the place where interactions happen and, in turn, the structure that grants identity to existences, keeping them coupled and determining their evolution.
Every entity, real or virtual, possesses a boundary where it comes into contact with the other; it is there where, thanks to that contact, change and creation are produced. We, as entities, also possess an interface. When we observe an object, we always see the boundary where it interacts with us or with its environment; we see its interface and the fruit of its interaction. If we delve deep into the interior of any system, we will find new interfaces of the entities that compose it, and so on successively until reaching the first interactions and the Original Total Freedom.
We never find a solid core that allows us to say “here is the immovable origin of this form”. Any reality is the fruit of the repetition of interactions through its interfaces. This transforms every entity into an “entity of entities”: a Complex System, almost always Permeable, where the parts couple and acquire the meaning of the whole. We do not see the static “being” of things, but their becoming: we see the interaction and its expressions. Truly, we happen as a result of interaction, and we are because we act as an interface. We are, simultaneously, creation and creators.
We find a clear example of this in quantum physics, in the wave-particle duality of the photon: which is a wave (it happens) and also a particle (it is) at the same time.
As my life advanced, a certainty was confirmed in my mind: transparency, freedom as essence and condition, the interface as structure, and interaction as function, are the keys to creation and existence. Transparency ceased to be an abstract concept to become my guide; into a “scientifically demonstrable Creative Intelligence”.
For years I explored this structure from all disciplines. I made mistakes and got confused, but transparency was my teacher: it taught me to learn from both errors and successes, and it gave me the energy necessary to reach the end. Art revealed to me the beauty of “transparentable” images; science, through the biological model of the cell membrane and liposomes, showed me the health and intelligence contained in the interface. Life, ultimately, taught me that Freedom is the only cause and meaning of the universe.
The Evolution of Transparency
In the following pages, I will expand upon the explanation of the interface. These reflections are the fruit of my work with artistic materials and with structures analogous to cell membranes. In both, transparency—that freedom expressed in the interface—is revealed as the creative entity that conditions their evolution. Transparency is not the end, but the means by which Original Total Freedom can manifest itself without distortion.
Freedom is not paradoxical: it is the only truth, the certainty that precedes order. With time I would discover that everything is freedom and interaction, interface and order; that original freedom possesses no characteristics of its own because, if it had them, it would restrict its very essence. It is the impossibility of its non-existence that produces the creative cosmic imbalance: the dissymmetry that gives rise to the first interaction between “being” and “non-being”. From this collision are born the first mathematics, the first physical laws, and the first entities. This is the beginning of everything. As they flow, propelled by this imbalance, the initial entities interact freely and evolve in an infinite cascade of possibilities. This process generates the potential and kinetic energy that sustains the cosmos, the very same that we intuit in dark matter or in black holes.
This Big Bang is not a past event; it occurs at every moment and in every transparent interface, like a heartbeat through the arteries, and there is no possibility of total collapse, for the system feeds back on its own impossibility of not existing.
Finally, I understood that this transparency, a direct daughter of freedom, was the key to understanding everything and the greatest expression of wisdom. Its ultimate knowledge is a “one on one” encounter from the soul and sincerity, where one is always alone and, even so, continues to do science. It is the state where the human being, by stripping away all opacity, becomes Permission: the first and most necessary inner freedom. Its utility resembles the return from a long journey: one ends up understanding everything, being freer and, ultimately, a better person.
The Superconductivity of Life
For the scientific reader, this transparency can be understood as an existential superconductivity. In the same way that a superconducting material allows the passage of electrical current with zero resistance, a transparent interface allows the flow of Total Freedom without loss of information. This zero resistance to the flow of freedom prefigures the mathematical dynamics that we will explore later on.
It is vital to specify that, in the dynamics of the Fractal, time does not behave solely as the physical and relative coordinate of which Einstein spoke. While for Special Relativity time depends on the observer’s velocity in space, in our model time is, fundamentally, a biological and informational variable. Linear time is not something that “passes” outside of us; it is the measure of the resistance (friction or “delay”) that our own interface opposes to the flow of Freedom.
Therefore, in a state of absolute transparency, the clock does not stop for lack of activity, but rather linear time disappears to transform itself into an Absolute Present. What we experience then is a state of zero informational impedance: an Existential Superconductivity where everything happens instantaneously and fully, free from the sediment and the delay of memory, because the interface no longer retains nor restrains the light of Freedom.
This property is what we will find in the architecture of life: in the cell membrane and also in the liposomal one. These membranes are not walls; they are filters of maximum transparency and selectivity that allow the interior of the cell to “happen” in perfect communication with the exterior. If the membrane becomes opaque, life stops. Health, therefore, is a state of biological transparency, and illness is nothing more than an accumulation of opacity, an excess of memory that blocks the flow of the present.
If Transparency is the light that allows us to see, the Interface is the sacred stage where that light meets the other. Do not seek the secret of life in the solid core of things, for there you will only find silence; seek it on the border, in that subtle boundary where freedom touches the world and decides, at last, to begin to beat.
Note on the Language of the Fractal: Freedom, Transparency, and Non-Interference
Throughout these pages, the reader will encounter three terms that intertwine constantly and that constitute the DNA of this model: Freedom, Transparency, and Non-Interference. It is fundamental to understand that they are not isolated concepts, but the same primordial entity manifesting itself in different dimensions:
- Freedom is the Essence: It is the “what” of the universe. The generating entity that, through the symmetrical emission of opposing polarities, generates the original voltage and the absolute permission so that everything can happen.
- Transparency is the Function: It is “how” that freedom manifests itself in the structure. It is the state of an interface that has managed to reduce its resistance to the minimum.
- Non-Interference is the Law: It is the ethical and physical “bond”. It is the renunciation by one entity of imposing its registry upon another, allowing the interaction to occur without noise or distortion.
I use these terms to expand your mental “bandwidth”: we speak of Freedom when we look to the origin; of Transparency when we look at the state of being; and of Non-Interference when we look at the action. To be transparent is to practice non-interference so that Freedom, quite simply, happens.
